Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI) has proven to be an effective way of collecting survey information in Iran. With extremely high landline penetration in both urban and rural settlements, Iran is one of the few regional countries where telephone interviewing is a viable alternative to those conducted face-to-face. PARS uses computer generated random telephone numbers (Random Digit Dialing – or RDD- Method) to select a probability sample of the target population. CATI is then utilized to carryout the surveys to ensure accuracy and reliability. CATI, however, is not recommended for all types of research and analysis. While CATI is ideal for short (between 10 – 15 minutes MAX) non-intrusive surveys, it has consistently failed to deliver high quality data on longer (over 15 minutes) or more sensitive/intrusive surveys.
